The island is surrounded by the saltwater wilderness of Everglades National Park to the north, where you can pursue bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and redfish in just inches of water, and the deep blue waters of the Florida Straits to the south where you can fight with a sailfish. Although you can find sailfish in the waters off Islamorada all year long, they're most abundant from sometime in November through April. Jacks, Spanish mackerel, barracuda, dolphin (mahi-mahi), billfish, tuna and wahoo are also plentyful offshore here.
