Planning Your Florida Panhandle Vacation
What you need to know before you go
It's emerald gulf waters and sugar-white sand beaches have made the Florida Panhandle a popular beach vacation destination for years.
But the area offers much more than just great beaches. From Pensacola on the west, thru Fort Walton Beach and Destin to the spring break favorite, Panama City, in the east, the Panhandle is made up of quaint towns each having their own personalities. While they still get crowded during tourist season, they're not as packed or built up as some of the more popular destinations in the southern parts of Florida.
From snorkeling, and scuba diving to parasailing and jet skiing, there's plenty of opportunities for enjoying the beautiful gulf water. And great fishing is available up and down the coast.
For the military buff, there are plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with historical aircraft and weapon systems at places like the Air Force Armament Museum, located on the grounds of Eglin Air Force Base, and the National Museum of Aviation at the Pensacola Naval Air Station.

If you're looking for something a bit quieter, the towns to the east of Panama City Beach (ex. Mexico Beach and St George Island) might be more to your liking. While some consider these towns to be part of the Panhandle, we group them under the Forgotten Coast instead since their character is a bit different than the more touristy destinations to their west.
